The game got off to a bad start with Hills putting the first points on the board with an early try on 3 minutes for hooker Mark Cahill, who drove over with the assistance of his pack, with their first attack of the game.
The Friaragemen clawed back with a spell of pressure of their own which saw many opportunities including a disallowed try for Andrew Dring. Finally a penalty in front of the posts was awarded our way which was secured by Chris Sainty.
However as soon as the hosts regained the possession they broke away and with some speedy passing along the line and men over to the right, winger Jamie Webb found a clear run to the line.
Rovers continued to drive into the home 22 and they were subject to another disallowed try, this time for Andrew Lilley who had received the ball after a series of smooth passes along the back line. There were also chances for Brian Foreman and Ian Coulson who also ran at their opponents but were held back by excellent defence. The Whites were then dealt another hard blow before the break, losing captain Michael Thubron to a shoulder injury which forced him off the field.
The second half began even worse for Rovers, when only 1 minute in, saw number 8 Byron Elliott run in his first try after the side made a break from the Rovers’ try line at the opposite end.
Only minutes later and Webb was to get his second try in the game when he touched down under the posts after being un-challenged by the Rovers lack of defence. The spot made an easy conversion for Guy Townsley.
Hills soon increased their 22-3 lead further with a score for Mikey Hayward when he received the ball just before the line for him to pop over for a converted try. The second try for Elliot then came when he charged under the posts for another easy score, which was also converted.
Hayward also had a second scoring for his side when he was handed the offload from Elliott who was having an excellent game at number 8. Townsley adding on the extra points.
A well earned try then came Rovers’ way when we shipped the ball upfield and after some strong drives by the pack, Stewart Grazier made it over the line for a converted try. He had an outstanding game in the back row gaining many yards in open play. Dave Gregory also impressed again with some excellent scrummaging with two against the head.
Unfortunately in the final minutes of play, Hills scored their 8th try through Andy Penno who took advantage of a loose ball. Townsley adding the conversion to bring up the fifty points and the final score.
