Rovers U14's were away to Sunderland on sunday and probably put in their best performance of the season so far.
Despite a short warm-up Rovers got straight into the game and dominated the opening exchanges. A drive by the pack from a lineout saw "substitute" hooker Sam Miller barge over for his first try of the season, Mitchell converting. With the rucking and mauling going well Rovers looked to spread the ball wide and winger Coulson soon crossed over for another converted try. Sunderland hit back with a try of their own as their large pack started to get into the game. The game became abit scrappy at the end of the half but a powerfull run and try from Mitchell had Rovers leading 19-5 at the break.
With mistakes from the first half pinpointed Rovers set out to play a more structured game and that they did putting in a very composed 25 minutes of rugby. Some text book rucking and ball presentation set up the platform for the backs to run some awesome lines and angles with only some last ditch tackles from Sunderland preventing the Rovers crossing the line. Eventually Coulson crossed for his second try of the game with Mitchell again converting. Sunderland pushed strongly to get back in the game but Rovers defence held firm. They did eventually cross but again could not convert. Rovers were soon back in the hosts half and good hands from the backline put mitchell through the gap to score his second try of the match. Rovers ran out 31-10 winners.
