Official Hartlepool Rovers
Paul Kirton Consett Preview
By R&O - November 14 2008
Hartlepool Rovers have a tricky match in Durham Northumberland One on Saturday when they visit Consett (kick off 2:15pm). >

Consett, promoted from Durham Northumberland Two at the end of last season find themselves stuck in third bottom spot in the table, one place and one point above Rovers’ victims last weekend, Ryton. Their home form has seen them beat both Stockton and Sunderland but suffer a heavy defeat to Horden.

The last time the Whites visited Belle Vue was the promotion winning season of 2003/04 when a tremendous 50-0 win saw Rovers guaranteed at least a promotion play off and victory next time out over Tech gave the Friragemen the title. Scorers that day were Dave Carroll (2), Jonathan Wrigley (2), Simon Rutherford, Michael Charlton, Steve Wallis and Michael Walton who also kicked five conversions.

The Friaragemen will be looking to exhibit something like their ‘normal’ form after being a shadow of themselves so far this season in winning 41-12 against Ryton. At times in the past, such a win would have been regarded as a comprehensive success but the players were disappointed at their performance and winning scoreline.

Coaches Jonathan Wrigley and Craig Lee have handed starts to Iain Pinchen and Dean Cook, subs last week, with Michael Tucker and Darren Smith dropping down to the bench where they will be accompanied by Steve Wallis.

In the absence of the injured Andrew Lilley, Paul Kirton comes into the XV in his former role in the centre, Chris Sainty moving back onto the wing. Brian Foreman and Michael Barnfield are both working and so Mark Shires moves from the flank to his accustomed full back role and Ben Cushlow comes in on the wing.

The vastly experienced Mike Hodgson will be the man with the whistle.

Rovers: Shires, Sainty, P Hall, Kirton, B Cushlow, G Foreman, A Foreman, I Pinchen, J Cushlow, Wise, Power (c), Cook, Grazier, S Palmer, Taylor. Subs: Tucker, D Smith, Wallis

i hope its just a case of giving other lads a run and not the beggining of the end for last years player of the year who hasnt done anything to deserve this.
