The Friaragemen will come face to face with former coach Kevin Westgarth who is now the boss at Druid Park and who would love to put one over the Rovers to not only exact some revenge for what he felt was an unwarranted departure from West View Road but also to build a promotion challenge for his new side.
There has been a bit of press coverage on Tyneside with some journalistic licence labelling this as a ‘grudge match’ but hopefully the game will turn out to be a good one. The weather forecast is not good, shades of last week against Percy Park, but the nature of the pitch surface should ensure that, underfoot at least, there will be chances to run with the ball.
Coaches Jonathan Wrigley and Craig Lee name the same starting XV from the narrow 10-9 home win over Percy Park. Stuart Langston and Phil Jukes who were unused subs last week are on the bench alongside Mark Shires who has now recovered from knee surgery. ‘Crouchy’ proved to be a very good signing at the end of last season, being strong in the tackle as well as running in some excellent tries from the full back berth.
Rovers: B Foreman, Sainty, P Hall, Lilley, M Barnfield, G Foreman, A Foreman, Tucker, J Cushlow, Wise, Power (c), D Smith, Grazier, S Palmer, Taylor. Subs: Langston, Jukes, Shires
