Official Hartlepool Rovers
Stuart Palmer Hartlepool Rovers 10 Percy Park 9
By R&O - October 26 2008
Hartlepool Rovers are now top of Durham Northumberland One in their own right after this win over their nearest rivals but Percy Park made their presence felt and the Tynesiders will be disappointed not to have left West View Road with the league points. >

In a match ruined by the strong wind, Rovers scored the game’s only try with Park having to rely on the boot of the impressive Marcus Rutter.

It was Rutter who gave Park an early lead and for the next half hour his side hammered away at Rovers but could not cross the try line and Rovers rocked the visitors when Andrew Foreman forced his way over under the posts from Rovers’ first attack of note, Chris Sainty converting.

Rutter reduced the deficit with a brilliant kick just on half time and he was on target again three minutes after the break for Park to regain the lead 9-7. The Whites took the lead once again with a Sainty penalty on 66 minutes when Brett Sylph knocked the ball away after Stuart Palmer was halted a couple of metres out and kept the slender lead to the final whistle.

This was easily Rovers’ most difficult game of the season to date and they visit Gosforth this coming Saturday looking to keep their 100% record intact.

Rovers: B Foreman, Sainty, P Hall, Lilley, M Barnfield, G Foreman, A Foreman, Tucker, J Cushlow, Wise, Power (c), D Smith, Grazier (Kirton 67), S Palmer, Taylor. Subs (not used): Langston, Jukes

Percy Park: Rutter, Blair, Greetham  (Walton 58), Morse, Blackburn, Turnbull, Scott (Dixon 76), Purdy, Pollock (Andrew Dunn 70), Reekie, Fidler, Langlands, Anthony Dunn, Ponton, Sylph (c)(sin bin 66)

Referee: Ken Hudson (Durham Society)

tough game not just cos of the conditions, didn't think we played that well at times but a win is a win and well done.

Just a thought , what about Philly Hall at 12 and Lilley at 13?

Of course he is ! :-D

If the inside centre is seeing alot of contact then maybe that would suite Phil's game more than Andrew's. I just wanted to start a discussion Pikey !
