The Whites still need to win at arch rivals West Hartlepool in their last fixture to ensure survival but the defeats for Old Crossleyans at Driffield and Carlisle at Morpeth have seen Rovers climb out of the bottom three. Rovers can guarantee their place in North Two East for next season by winning at West and can still stay up even if they lose the town derby if Old Crossleyans or Carlisle lose in their final games at home to York and Driffield respectively.
Aspatria took the lead after 23 minutes when their skipper Chris Tweddle ran strongly from outside the 22 for some 20 metres to set up Lee Tinnion. Dan Rayson went wide with the conversion but added penalties on 26 and 36 minutes to give the Black Reds a healthy 11-0 lead.
With the wind and rain at their backs, the visitors would have felt that they should have racked up more points by the break but it was Rovers, after having to absorb some heavy pressure, who ended the half on the attack.
The Friaragemen burst into life in sensational fashion after the interval with two tries in five minutes.
Chris Sainty started a move in his own half with Paul Kirton and Michael Tucker taking over. Play reached the away try line where the ball was passed along the line for Sainty to score in the left hand clubhouse corner.
Almost from the kick off, Rovers took the lead. There seemed nothing on for Mark Shires when he received the ball on the away 10 metre line but, a couple of hand offs later, he was soon running for the line and he touched down under the posts for Sainty to easily convert and Rovers led 12-11.
After a massive drive to the line saw a Jonny Cushlow ‘try’ disallowed in favour of a 5 metre scrum, Rovers extended their lead from the next attack, Gareth Foreman slipping the ball to brother Brian to score a deserved try, the centre having been the victim of a couple of earlier try saving tackles.
The Whites continued to press on the try line but were unable to add to their points haul. They did remain in control, however, to take the two league points.
Rovers’ confidence is understandably high after a sequence of three wins in a row but a massive task awaits them at Brinkburn this Saturday.

It is yes, as far as I am aware.
Would be good to see a West win but also good for Rovers to stay up, which I reckon they will.

Just in case Rovers fail to beat West then surely Driffield will win at Carlisle.....

Would not bet on it, end of season and nothing to play for. Rovers on the other hand still have everything to play for and I think they can get the result they crave providing they dont let their nerves get the better of them. Anyway it will be intriguing game so best of luck.
