Last night saw us travel over to Hammerwich for our biggest game so far, the semi final of the knockout. Despite only playing 1 game so far in the K.O so far (thanks to the toss of a coin and 1 conceded result!) last night saw us going into the game knowing if we won we’d be heading towards a final.
Edger won the toss and we elected to field, as is the usual choice in 15 8 ball overs cricket. We opened up with Scotty down the hill and Ocker up it. Hammerwich were in no mood to hang around though, and with some well ran singles and some lusty blows, saw them reach 64 off 7 or 8 overs with the one opener hitting at least 50 of them! However, things were soon to turn in our favour. We managed to peg them back slightly as a few wickets were taken, Roundy and WSW were next to turn there arm over, with MBKR bowling some tight stuff earning him a couple of wickets. Lee Bowen then came on for Windows and also bowled well and suddenly the game swung back into our favour. A rush of wickets in the last 5 overs (including some good fielding for a couple of run outs) saw us restrict Hammerwich to 119.
As the light was only going to get worse from here on, we knew 119 was still a competitive score but still under a run a ball. Simon and The Crest opened up as we looked to get off to a good start. But alas, it didn’t quite go to plan as Crest tried to pull a short one but didn’t quite get hold of it and only succeeded in hitting it straight down square legs throat. Jack Phillips then came and went quickly, as Simon looked to build an innings the other end. Edger was in at 4 and with a few lusty blows got us right back into it, Hammerwich were certainly getting riled as the comments starting coming thick and fast, as they usually tend to.
However, Edge was next to go as he gambled on a single through to the keeper, unfortunately a good bit of fielding from their lad with the gloves on saw Edge stranded halfway down. Simon followed him shortly after as their keeper took a belting one-handed catch leaving us on about 50 for 4 off 7 or 8 overs. The run rate was slowly creeping up as Roundy and Ocker looked to see us home. Ocker batted as he always does, looking for the big hits but today his action was limited as he made about 10 before being caught out in the deep. Roundy was going steady but got to about 10 and soon departed. Diddy also soon followed as he was bowled the next over.
This left us with a mountain to climb, needing 12 an over to see us home with only 5 overs to go and 7 wickets down. Duddles and WSW were the men at the crease and the chase was suddenly back on. Some well hit shots for 4 and some good running between the wickets saw us back up with the run rate, the Hammerwich skipper spread his field but still the ball was worked around well. WSW then decided to run himself out when he was on 17, for some as yet unknown reason, which left Scotty Powder the chance of winning us the game with 8 runs required from about 10 balls. The dog proceeded to smash his first ball to the leg side for 4, but the high was quickly followed by a low as he was out caught behind off the next ball.
This left us needing 3 to win off the last over with Duddles on strike and low and behold, the self-proclaimed ‘Big Dog’ smashed the first ball through point for a hastily ran 3, leaving the scores tied. Lee ‘Grinner’ Bowen was now on strike, needing 1 to win the game. The bowler trotted up and a cultured leave (or miss?!) and the ball rolled down the hill for a scampered bye, leaving us home and dry with 6 balls to go and 9 wickets down! All in all a great comeback after really being in the mire at one stage, now on to the final where we’ll be facing either Wolverhampton Courts or Old Wulfs Tettenhall. Hopefully we will see all you avid readers there giving us your full support!

Good work in the knock-out. Is the final a two-leg affair, with a home and away match?
No offence, but I think it's b0ll0cks moving the start time for a football match.

I'm sure if you had an interest in it though it would be slightly different. If both teams agree then I don't see why it's a problem?!
And apparently the final is a one leg affair to be played at a neutral venue.

Nah, sorry Ben, I know it's the World Cup and all, but it's also the cricket season. My whinging won't change anything, but i'm still not in agreement with it, and I'd tell their skipper to stick it if he offered it to me. :-! ;-)
Any idea when the final is mate?

Granted, most of them are a wind-up Ben, but this about moving the game isn't. I honestly believe it's a bit of a farce.

Well,we'll have to agree to disagree. I personally don't think it's doing any harm at all, everyone's a winner really-game of cricket and watching the football,as opposed to having only half a team out.

Each to their own, but I personally wouldn't want to go back out to play half a game of cricket after having a two hour break to watch the football.
