Official Wombourne CC
Wombourne CC 2nd XI vs Coleshill
By Press Officer - June 27 2006
Another report from Saturday's games (24th of June), this time featuring our 2nd XI who, like our 1st XI, took on Coleshill. Read on to see how they got on... >
Unfortunatley another defeat for our 2nd team but at least one very notable acheivment -

The day did not start well for John 'smudger' Smith as he arrived half way through the teams warm up. "Why you late Smudger ?" the skipper asked, "I got so drunk last night, I never woke up" came the bog standard reply from the average 15 year old these days !!!

Tigger was wheeled out for the toss, which he lost, and Wombourne were asked to bat.

We lost The Earl to good slower one early on, but the returning KQ and Smudger started to repair the damage. KQ's concentration finally let him down and departed for 30 odd. Chesney and Alvin soon followed bringing ex skipper Postie to the wicket. Some fine Bowls green target practice saw the Postman knock 59, but the highlight of the day was hapening at the other end. Its congratulations to 'Smudger' Smith for reaching his maiden Wombourne ton (100 not out). However this does not mean he needs to get trashed ever Friday night !

However the 256 total that we posted was not enough, as the Coleshill top order made light work of knocking off the score well within the 50 overs. We took a couple of good catches and toiled hard in the field but it was not to be our day.

PS Would all club members note that John 'Bear' Hughes does NOT do warm ups or stretching exercises so please stop asking him !
