Captain watch:
Lost the toss.
Delivered with the bat.
Kept well.
Chest rub down during the game reduces score by 1 point.
Overall score 7/10
Other Comments:
Nice chicko legs at tea.
Patch of regurgitated tea just back of a length needs removing before next game.
Results: Wombourne 220 odd for about 6 or 7
Rivo 36, Russo 39, Edger 54 no
Blox 120 odd for 5 …… and on and on and on ….
Hill 4 for not many.
After losing the toss Wombourne cashed in on some rather wayward bowling. A number of contributions spring to mind. Jack opening with a stylish 14 or so, Stan with 20 odd, Rivo and Russo both hitting the thirties before getting out in rather bizarre fashion, and the skipper with an unbeaten 50 odd. Oh, and don’t forget WSW, after a brief trip to the toilet (4th time in the game) he played some exquisite cover drives (Once the stiff arms had loosened up) to finish on 19 not out. A good score on a slow wicket, 220 odd, off 50 overs.
Note: Fastest finger in the west award goes to Rivo. (Still 0.01 second behind WSW’s world record) He promptly triggered Edger after he middled one into his pads. In fact it was rumoured that Rivo himself even appealed. All credit to the Blox boys for calling Edger back, and sparing Rivo’s blushes.
So it was out to field with a confidence that we could force a result. Not the best start in the world. Their opening batsman looking like Desperate Dan (very nice bloke though ) wielding a 4lb bat, and cutting it off the stumps at will, helped accelerate the score to 40 odd without loss. The bowling was justifiably switched around with Ocker replacing yours truly at the top end and WSW replacing Jim Bowen from the bottom end. Contrasting fortunes to say the least! WSW not at his best after another trip to the loo, went for 27 off his two overs (it was rumoured it was 32 but after his heroics with the bat we will give him the benefit of the doubt), just missing out on the Lux tap award. At the other end Hilly with his consistent line and length claimed two wickets in his first over, to put the Blox on the back foot. After a few more lusty blows, Hilly claimed another two wickets to finish with a well deserved 4 for…. That was pretty much that, one more wicket fell and the Blox decided to shut up shop and hold out for a point. Mr Boycott would have been proud! 120 odd for 5.
We were all in good spirits as we retuned to the changing rooms, safe in the knowledge that we are a team playing with spirit and determination, and with a professional healer in our ranks (Ask Kate) surely the only way is up!
Apologises to those I have not mentioned in the report ….. Everyone contributed.
