Official Wombourne CC
W.C.C. Wombourne CC 3rd XI vs Highcroft & Great Barr CC
By Ben Woodall - June 11 2007
The long awaited first match report of the 2007 season for our 3rd XI. Could we start the roll and win two on the bounce? Read on... >
Another scorcher of a day saw us travel over to Highcroft & Great Barr for possibly our longest journey of the season.

After winning the toss we elected to bat on a fairly green 'un. We managed to bat the full 50 overs (a rare occurance indeed so far this season!) to finish up on 198 for 6, a decent total on what was a fairly unpredictable pitch, despite me playing back 5 dot balls in the 50th over!
Notable contributions with the bat coming from Simon Scarth (50), Tigga (41) and Jack Phillips (35).

After watching Pembers turn their balcony into a sea of orange squash during tea, we eventually returned to the field. Lee Bowen and myself opening up. Unfortunately, after a brilliant start which saw us reduce H & GB to approximately 40 for 7, we couldn't fully capitalise. However, we gave ourselves a decent chance when in the 35th over we made the breakthrough, taking the 9th wicket and leaving us 15 overs with which to secure 25 points. Unfortunately we came across two seasoned pros who did what they had to in order for their side to gain something from the game. A disappointing finish seeing Highcroft end on 138 for 9 from their 50 overs.

Notable contributions with the ball from Matt Brown (2 for 7), WSW (3 for 14) and Lee Bowen(2 for 22).

All in all a lesson to be learnt for the younger members of our side, but a valuable 12 points gained for the winning draw all the same.
