Wombourne U15's v Himley U15's 7th June 2007
By Malcolm Hughes - June 8 2007
Here is the match report from last nights North Worcester league fixture played at Stourbridge Rooad, Himley. The game was played between Wombourne U15's v Himley U15's. >
Close encounter of the third kind.

After two previous close defeats at hands of Himley our lads once again tried to pitch their skills against the current Worcestershire Champions at this age group.

Alex won the toss and unusually decided it was a time to field first. Himley started cautiously but with the new ball swinging miles we tried to bowl too fast and produced plenty of early wides and no balls, which relieved the pressure immediately. However a fast short ball from Ollie on the bouncy quick wicket brought about a false hook shot from himley's best batsman and he went cheaply. Former Wombourne player Rob Jones played a nice innings and was strong off his legs before spooning Jordan 'the sledge' to square leg. Most of the team's banter is funny with Jordan causing most mirth with mistimed eccentric comments mostly about golf.

The Himley captain also batted well with some nice straight shots but fell to Alex 'secret weapon' Chilton . A second clean bowled by 'Andy Chilts' which he somehow became, then started a great period for wombourne as we restricted them to 103 for 6. He would have a third wicket but on a relatively easy caught and bowled skier his fashioned hairstyle fell in front of his eyes and he simply fell on the floor.Nevertheless at 13 we have found a very useful bowler.

Alex and Cain opened and batted well as a pair sensibly taking ones and two's as Himley set the field deep to Alex. However, as Cain is now a very accomplished player he was able to pierce the inner ring and also manouvered the ball well to keep the board ticking. Himley's own sledging was decent but was mainly a copy of Wombourne's,so Alex started sledging the fielders to entice an improvement.

After looking comfortable Alex then smashed a low one which was well caught low down for 30 and we still had some work to do. Ollie and Ben (who kept really well) soon perished and things were getting tense and twitchy.Even worse was to come when after a stylish 51 not out Cain had to retire with still runs to get. So enter young Mikey Brookes another promising 13 year old cricketer. With Laney scampering brilliantly, Mikey cooly carressed the winning runs with an excellent shot for two to bring a great win for Wombourne in the final over.

Thanks to Himley for a great game played in good competitive spirit and we look forward to further battles along the way.
