Wombourne CC (3rd XI) vs Swindon
Swindon 98 a.o- WSW 6-for, Dean Pedder 4-for
Wombourne 102-4– T Meek 34, Mole 24, S Pitt 10 n.o
With the number of games remaining being only 7 including todays fixture, every point is crucial as we look to consolidate our position in the league for next season. (Please excuse any incorrect stats as once more I don’t have the scorebook to hand!).
A short journey down the road to Kingswinford led us to the picturesque surroundings of the Kingswinford School, with a lush Astroturf wicket and an outfield fit to grace any first class ground (Can you tell the sarcasm yet?!). Anyway, we knew what we had to do and that was to gain a 3rd victory on the bounce, this time against a Swindon side up in 4th place. Edger won the toss and as is standard, elected to field. Elk and Deano opened up for us, bowling some good lines without much luck as the Swin openers got them off to a steady start. After a while Edger decided to mix it up a little and brought on Lee Bowen and WSW to see if they could make the breakthrough. Windows duly obliged, removing both openers, the one after a rather large rush of blood to his head as he tried to smash everything over the top, only succeeding in finding the ‘lively’ Shaun Pitt at mid-off. The other was then caught behind by the battered and bruised mini Meeky, after being ‘roughed up’ by Lee the other end the batsmen obviously decided he didn’t want to remain on the field any longer.
The rest of the Swindon batsmen didn’t hang around too much longer as Deano came back on to mop up the tail after Lee had bowled well during his allotted 5 over spell. Swindon ended up on 98 all out from approximately 30 overs, Deano ending up with 4 wickets and Windows with 6. All in all a top effort from all of the bowlers, backed up with some good fielding, to give us a chance at keeping our good run of form going.
After deciding against an immediate tea break (and trying to decipher the Swindon book-not the easiest to read!) we went back out for a scheduled 20 overs, after which tea would be taken. Simon Scarth and Tom Meek opened up and got us off to a solid start before Simon fell, caught at cover, before he departs on his delayed honeymoon (have a good one mate!). Mole was next to enter the fray, an estimated 4 years after last picking up a bat! He started off a bit hesitantly but soon got back into the swing of things, even managing to loft a cover drive into the school playground for 6. After a quickfire 20-odd Mole departed, caught in the deep as he looked for another maximum. After Mole’s quick burst we needed only a few runs to win, the last few overs are a bit of a blur but we won at a canter, achieving their score after approximately 25 overs. So all in all another great win which will hopefully see us move up the table, if we keep this form up then a top 4 finish is by no means a million miles away.
Well played lads, lets see if we can keep it going against bottom of the league Fordhouses next week.
WSW.
