Arngrove Northern League

August

A Neil Campbell penalty earned City an away point at Billingham Synthonia in an insipid curtain-raiser to the new season, but City league-christened the new playing surface in style with a 5-1 home win over newly-promoted Darlington RA, Campbell notching a hat-trick. A late Steven Richardson goal salvaged a home point against Northallerton Town before City fought back with two late goals to earn a point at Billingham Town. Lewis Dodds inspired a Bank Holiday Monday victory at Chester-le-Street, scoring the pick of three unreplied goals from thirty yards.

September

A 5-1 away win at Jarrow Roofing took City to second in the table but a midweek reverse at home to West Auckland ended the unbeaten start to the season.

October

A goalless draw at Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics and a late Michael Chilton goal to rescue a point at home to Horden CW were followed by a 1-1 draw at Newcastle Blue Star as City struggled to re-capture their early season form in the League. A confidence-boosting 4-1 home win over Dunston FB was followed by a disappointing reversal by the same score at Consett before a share of six goals and a sole point at home to Morpeth Town saw City in tenth place and looking for their fifth manager inside two years as they parted company with manager Andy Gowens.

November

Dickie Ord masterminded a 1-0 home win over West Allotment Celtic and a 3-1 away win at Tow Law before Bishop Auckland inflicted a 3-2 home defeat. Two Andy Bowes goals helped City to a 4-2 home victory over Bedlington Terriers. A second Campbell hat-trick of the season saw off visitors Ashington a resounding 5-0 victory before a single Dodds strike earned City their fifth win out of six under Ord at home to the erstwhile League leaders, Shildon.

December

A 3-1 home defeat to current League leaders Sunderland Nissan was followed by a goalless draw at home to Billingham Synthonia and a 4-2 away defeat at Darlington RA, a home win on Boxing Day to the Cestrians being City’s first victory in four games.

January

2-0 up at half time, City were beaten by the odd goal in five by Billingham Town before being totally outplayed at Hillheads. Two late goals by Craig Nelson in a 3-3 draw at home to Jarrow Roofing preceded City’s nadir match of the season when they relinquished a comfortable 2-goal lead and conceded three goals in the final thirteen minutes at West Auckland. Thirteen goals conceded in the month saw City in ninth position.

February

City won their first game of 2007 by two goals to one at Bedlington Terriers before Richardson’s injury time winner bagged three home points against Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics. The month’s final match was a convincing 5-0 away win at Horden – despite the resignation of Dickie Ord, his assistant, Lee Collings taking temporary charge.

March

A 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle Blue Star was followed by a 1-0 away win at Dunston and a similar scoreline at Northallerton before visitors Consett succumbed 2-1 to an exquisite Tommy English lob from all of forty yards. A 2-0 win at West Allotment Celtic was winner number four on the trot before two late goals by visitors Tow Law ended the winning sequence. City appointed Lee Collings as their new manager with Richie Pitt as his assistant.

April

A rare away win at Morpeth and two English goals in a 3-1 away win at Bishop Auckland were followed by a tedious goalless draw at Ashington which ended City’s run of seven successive away wins. A Neil Maddison hat-trick was City’s response to a tenth minute Stuart Niven penalty at Shildon before successive defeats away to Sunderland Nissan and at home to Whitley Bay decided the League Championship in the latter’s favour.
