Horden IIs 12 Stags 21
Danny Weegram Two magnificent individual tries from Danny Weegram and Colin Cheslin earned the points for the Stags. Fielding a makeshift front row they struggled for set piece posession but made the most of their chances.

Steve Clayton and Andy Palmer came in at the last minute as props alongside Anth Carr. With the slope at their backs the Stags started strongly and intellligent kicking from Chris Martin and Phil Wallis kept play in the home 22.But it wasn't until the 25 minute mark that the Stags could sneak some line-out ball and, fortunately, Paul Williamson made the most of it darting through in typical style. Masshedar converted.

The Stags wee looking to run at every opportunity and five minutes later Colin Cheslin received at outside centre just inside his own half. There looked little on but he spotted a gap and burst forward at the start of a run which saw him sidestep four players on his way to the line. Mash again converted.

Horden came back and camped on the Stags line but excellent defence kept them at bay until the final second of the half when they got a push over try to make it 14-7 at the break.

The homeside began the second half in similar style but it was Danny Weegram who knocked them back on their heels after 58 minutes. He received from Wallis just outside his own 22 and shrugged off his own winger before accelerating away to evade three despairing tackles. Phil Wallis got an excellent conversion from five meters in.

Horden got a wing try of their own on 63 minutes but the West defence had little trouble in keeping them out for the rest of the game.

There were a number of highlights for the watching first team coaches. Henry Tones was back to form and Colin Cheslin's running and tackling in midfield suggested his future may not always be at scrum half. Phil Wallis was also back on form especially with his kicking.
