Billingham IIs 5 Stags 48
First Try This was the perfect start to the Stags' first season in the Tees Valley Merit League. They began where they left off in the Payman Cup demolishing the opposition with soem fine running rugby and excellent support play.

With Davy Tighe's experience [nothing compared to second half supersub Graham Franland's!] steadying the ship they ran in 8 tries and would have had more if it wasn't for some excellent defence by the home side.

Paul Moss led the way with a neat sidestep and finish after ten minutes with Cheslin [the one on the wing] racing clear 12 minutes later.

Phil Butler got a typica score, bursting over from a maul on the half hour, and then the impressive Will Richardson was on hand just two minutes later to gallop round under the posts.

Greg Edwards is being persauded to use his skills and speed at centre these days and he showed he is getting the hang of it just on the break to make it 29-0 at half time.

Billingham came back strongly after the interval and got their try, but Tighe showed a clean pair of heels to scamper in on 55 minutes before Cheslin got his second try. Second half scrum half Tinker Williamson completed the scoring when he took a quick tap penalty and raced over.
