They went ahead in the fourth minute with a pushover try for Number 5 Scott but, with the wind at our backs, we had the next 20 minutes.
We forced them into errors and Davy Tighe had long range penalty attempts on 7, 12, 14 and 26 minutes. Sadly all missed but Davy did celebrate his comeback with a typical sniping try from a well won lineout from Chocky. He darted through from 18 metres but failed with the conversion.
The sucker punches came in the space of two minutes when Morpeth had a rare raid into our 22. We won the line-out, but the ball was fired at Wallis and the young fly half couldn't take it. The ball bounced off his shoulder into the path of flanker Nelless who kicked on and managed to beat the cover to the ball. That try was converted.
Almost in the same position two minutes later Wallis punted his clearance straight down the throat of full back Wall who, not for the first time, made ground, This time he found our midfield deserted with Steve Black having to mark two wide players. Winger Rogers, the league's top scorer, had one of his easier tries.
The half time score of 17-5 was a bit harsh but we only had ourselves to blame.
Both the wind and the rain increased in the second half and we had it in our faces. We matched Morpeth in everything apart from the scrums where we were once again pushed back at a rate of knots.
They went further ahead on 50 minutes when No 8 Hutton rounded off another spell of forwards pressure to make it 24-5.
Against the elements we managed to keep the floodgates shut and it was no more than Steve Black deserved when he finished off a dazzling spell ["I went freelance to keep warm," he said afterwards] forcing his way over under the posts.
By this time Panda was at fly half after Darren Thomas had come on for Wallis, with Davy going to 10 and then limping off after tripping on a trailing bandage! Yes it was one of those days. Panda got the conversion with a drop goal to finish the game.
Morpeth deserved the win but we gifted them two of their tries. Now lets see if we can manage to stay unbeaten for the rest of nthe season.
