The West Roadmap

The West Roadmap Nobody knows when training can resume, or even whether the league season will start in September. However,  in common with Boris, Senior Head Coach Jamie Connolly is laying out his road map in preparation for when we can get back on the pitches.

We have a new Senior Rugby coaching and management team along with the vision for developing the senior playing squad for this season and beyond.

In a nutshell we are aiming to create an environment where all players can develop at a pace to suit them, whether that be to compete at the highest level or socially with their mates. We hope the Stags will become an appealing team to play in whilst developing as a player with the aim of graduating to 1st Team rugby, creating competition for places throughout both squads. Our long-term goal as a ‘Senior Section’ is to field 3 senior teams regularly throughout the playing season.

With this in mind, recruitment  is an area that we are very keen to develop and communicate to those from outside the club that our door is open and we welcome all newcomers to come and experience what West has to offer. We have superb facilities: a new clubhouse, very well-equipped fitness room, top quality pitches and from this new season improved training floodlights and the new artificial grass pitch, which will prove invaluable for training when the cold weather arrives. Apart from an enclosed New Zealand style training barn we could not ask for more!

So, we are looking to get back in action with Phase 1 being lockdown engagement and fitness. This phase will include challenges encompassing fitness, strength & conditioning and skills. We want it to be interactive and fun for all, there will be an ongoing challenge that involves a team effort with some mini units’ competition. The first is undereway and involves the team running the equivalent distance of Land’s End to John O’Groats with the mini unit running the furthest winning.

Other activities and challenges will be posted via our new Heja players app on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with all efforts counting towards the Land’s End challenge!

I for one am looking forward to the future of the club both on and off the field. At some stage we will get three regular senior teams, which in itself will breed competition for the good of the club.

All the best for the coming season to all coaches and players at every level throughout the club.

Jamie we all stand behind what you are planning to achieve, best of luck mate.
