Welcome Return For Harry-Jon

By Dave Picken - October 23 2019
Welcome Return For Harry-Jon It was quite a special day for Harry-Jon Morgan when he turned out at centre for the Stags last week in their 38-14 cup win over Horden and Peterlee.

Harry-Jon made the headlines in the summer when he was diagnosed with meningitis for the second time in his 23 years - very rare and desperately unlucky as reported in the Mail.

He is used to making the headlines having been the RFU's very first "apprentice" where he served his time at Billlingham learning everything from club management to coaching and playing.

Now he is taking his sporting and academic education to higher levels while teaming up with former Westie Craig Gilmour in what is proving to be a successful coaching partnership at East Durham College.

And he is looking to use his coaching qualifications and experience to help out at West  where he started his rugby in the Minis and Juniors.

He says: "It was great to get back on the pitch again not only because I've got over the meningitis, but also because its a novelty playing on grass and mud after spending so much time playing and coaching on the artificial grass pitch at Billingham.

"Grass is definitely easier on the joints!"
