Scarborough Preview

By Dave Picken - October 11 2019
Scarborough Preview Our challenging start to the season continues with yet another visit from the league leaders - this time it's Scarborough who we face for the very first time..

They will arrive having overtaken previous visitors Bradford and Bingley at the top of North One East.

We went down 20-12 to the Bees two weeks ago,  and will be looking to get our season back on track against the Seasiders.

Last week a makeshift West side lost 59-15 at Cleckheaton. We had lots of regular players missing - bringing in lads from retirement with others making their debut. They stuck to their task, and there were some fine individual performances against the best side we have faced for some time.

Selection is a little easier this week with skipper Ryan Painter, Ollie Connolly, Liam Bailey, Adam Coates and Michael Hogan all available together with the bonus of Adam Brown recovering from his shoulder injury sooner than expected.

Jake Linighan has work commitments and John Bunter is still nursing an elbow injury, so last week’s Man of the Match Connor McLurg partners Michael Hogan in the second row, while No. 8 Chris Atkins has recovered from the knock he suffered last week.

Such was the performance of the youngsters in adversity last week that Aidan Jackson-Smith continues at hooker with Owen Westhorp is on the bench after being cruelly denied a try on his debut by a unsighted ref. Liam Pennick continues at loosehead after a series of excellent performances of his own.

West: Ollie Connolly, Joe Willis, Zac Southern, Peter Youll, Lewis Scott, Stu Waites, Ryan Painter (capt), Andrew Rollins, Aidan Jackson-Smith, Liam Pennick, Michael Hogan,  Connor McLurg, Adam Brown, Liam Bailey, Chris Atkins.

Changes:  Adam Coates, Owen Westhorp, Ethan Ledington.

We should have got something out of the Bradford game so me reason why we can’t put the graft in and get something out of this one.
