Pocklington Preview

Pocklington Preview Competition for places could be a major factor in our season judging by the performance of the youngsters at Morley last week. Eighteen year olds Ollie Connolly, Ethan Ledington, Liam Pennick and Aidan Jackson-Smith all made their debuts in the 29-10 defeat against the side which finished third last season.

It was a tough baptism, but they all came through with flying colours in a West side which, remarkably, was made up entirely of players who had come through the club’s junior set-up - and even more remarkably so were the coaches on duty that day.

It will be a similar situation this week when Brinkburn hosts its first North One game of the new season.

Pocklington are the visitors, and like their hosts they will be looking to get off the mark after losing 26-17 to new boys Moortown last week.

We will have some of their more seasoned players back in the 18 man squad - notably hooker Andrew Rollins, prop Danny Cookland, second row John Bunter and back row Liam Bailey (pictured).

Winger Harry Hazell, who signed from Seaton during the summer, is on the bench and also looking to make his debut

Will Hilditch is still out following a knock at Westoe in the cup game, while prop Liam Pennick, who has made a great start to his first season in senior rugby, is away celebrating his 19th birthday.

West squad: Ollie Connolly,Lewis Scott, Zac Southern, Peter Youll, Max Tennant, Stu Waites, Ryan Painter (capt), Adam Coates, Andrew Rollins, Adam Brown, Michael Hogan, Jake Linighan, John Bunter, Alex Barker, Liam Bailey,Chris Atkins, Danny Cookland, Harry Hazell.
