Whitby Preview - Kick Off 3.00 pm
On the basis that you are only as good as your last game Whitby will arrive at Brinkburn for the first 3.00 kick off of 2019  with some confidence after only their second win of the season – a 21-14 defeat of Medicals - while last time out we struggled to overcome second bottom Ponteland.

Back in November we beat the Maroons 85-0 on their own pitch, definitely a record league away win, and we will be looking for another big win to keep up the pressure on Durham City and Northern. The three-cornered fight for the automatic promotion place and the play-off place looks like going down to the wire with six games left.

However, things are never that easy as we found out at Ponteland who are destined for the drop alongside this week's visitors. Only in the last ten minutes did we secure a 34-26 win.

Both Ponteland and Whitby have nothing to lose for the rest of the season, as they are both effectively relegated, so Ponteland gave it a good go and no doubt Whitby will do the same.

They were level transferred into Durham and Northumberland One after being promoted from Yorkshire Two and have had a tough time - both on and off the pitch with players making their own way across the moors every other week for away games.

However, during our big win back in November those players stuck at their task admirably, while most of their supporters stayed in the bar watching a game on the telly.

There's a bigger West squad to choose from this week including Jake Linighan, Jay Corbett,  Peter Youll and Scott Butcher, although Gav Painter hurt his knee in training again this week, top try scorer Will Hildicth is recovering from an ankjle injury and Adam Brown is having a precuationary rest after a knock to the head at Ponteland.

West: Zac Southern, Callum Johnston, Davy Heckles, Peter Youll, Max Tennant,, Stu Waites, Ryan Painter (captain), Adam Coates, Andrew Rollins, Danny Cookland, John Bunter, Jake Linighan,  Chris Atkins, Scott Butcher, Jay Corbett.

Changes: Michael Hogan, Luke Mallinson, Isaac Robinson..

Yes . We scored a boat load at Whitby earlier this season but that's in the past. We need to concentrate and improve our discipline then I'm sure we will prevail. GO WEST!
