Ponteland Preview

Ponteland Preview The front row which finished last week's hard fought win at Stockton will be asked to go again against Ponteland this week.

After facing four of the leading sides in Durham and Northumberland One, and winning two hard fought derbies, we must avoid the proverbial banana skin as we face the two bottom clubs in the next fortnight.

Ponteland, whose Chairmain is former West front row John "Chunky" Chappell, will arrive in second bottom place and after a 53-31 home drubbing at the hands of third bottom Medicals. And next week we can look forward to a trip over the moors to Whitby (supporters places available on the bus which comes back late)  where the home side have yet to manage a win and are bottom of the league.

There’s the usual mixed news on the injury front this week. The new look front row comes courtesy of a rare injury to Andrew Rollins in the first half last week - he can't actually remember missing before though injury - but No 8 Jay Corbett has recovered from illness.

Second row Jake Linighan has work commitments, as does flanker Isaac Robinson whose arrival in the team has been one of the major plus points so far. So Chris Atkins drops into the back row and Connor McLurg starts after impressing for seventy minutes last week.

In the backs Liam Rutherford get his first start, after several appearances from  the bench, allowing nine-try Will Hilditch to return to the wing.

There's also welcome news on the bench where Andy Turner is on his way back after completing in his bodybuilding competitions. That actually meant he had to lose a lot of weight and is busy bulking himself back up.

West: Zac Southern, Will Hilditch, Peter Youll, Liam Rutherfrod, Callum Johnston, Stu Waites, Ryan Painter (capt), Adam Coates, Adam Brown, Danny Cookland, John Bunter, Joe Rafferty, Chris Atkins, Connor McLurg, Jay Corbett.

Changes: Jonny Hunter, Andy Turner, Adam Peacock.
