Horden & Peterlee Preview

By Dave Picken - October 12 2018
Horden & Peterlee Preview It’s another big derby day at Brinkburn where West and Horden and Peterlee clash in a league fixture for the first time since February 2015 ..

The Collierymen, known only as Horden then, of course,  won that epic 27-25 at home - their first win of a  season which eventually saw them relegated. They raced into a 21-0 lead but we fought back, and could have sneaked it.

On paper we go into this game as favourites having lost only once so far this season and sitting comfortably in third place, while Horden and Peterlee are just outside the relegation places.

However, that epic game back in 2015 demonstrates  how much local pride can influence a game and with strong winds forecast it promises to be another epic battle

Despite a two week lay-off we still  have some injury problems. John Bunter has tweaked a hamstring and won't be risked in the second row, while Gav Painter looks likely to be having a long rest while his recurring keen problems are resolved. Callum Johnston is also out.

Jake Linighan is back on his weekend shifts so it will be a new look second row with Joe Rafferty returning to partner Chris Atkins. Jay Corbett (pictured) has been in fine form at No 8 and continues alongside Isaac Robinson and Alex Barker who have both also started the season well.

In the backs Matt Siddle comes in for his first start of the season - travelling up from his new job in Essex to wear the shirt.

Adam Peacock returns after being overtaken in the leading try scorer stakes by Will Hilditch who moves inside to partner Peter Youll in the centre.

West: Zac Southern, Adam Peacock, Will Hilditch, Peter Youll,  Matt Siddle, Stu Waites, Ryan Painter (capt), Danny Cookland, Andrew Rollins, Adam Brown, Joe Rafferty, Chris Atkins, Alex Barker, Isaac Robinson, Jay Corbett.

Changes: Adam Coates, Connor McLurg, Johnny Hunter.
