Percy Park Preview

By Dave Picken - January 4 2018
Percy Park Preview We ended 2017 with a rare away win,  albeit in a "friendly" against Rovers, and it is to be hoped that now that corner has been turned we can break our league duck in 2018 starting with the short trip up the A19 to fellow strugglers Percy Park..

It'sair to say that most followers of North One East did not expect either club to be down in the basement come the New Year. We have struggled to get a settled side on the pitch, following a host of injuries and new jobs away friom the town and Park have suffered similarly.

By all accounts they have played some good rugby at times only to let things slip through silly mistakes, and we know that feelin from the games we should have won at Northern and Bradford and Bingley, in particular.

Park are second bottom some three points behind West - we are just outside the relegation places. However, this week’s hosts have a game in hand.

It’s a target game for both clubs with West boosted by the return of talisman Rob Thorn who has returned from working abroad.

Rob figured prominently in the second team holiday fixture at Brinkburn where Rovers Heughers kept the Bill Bowden Memorial Trophy beating West Stags by 22-15

However, the Boxing Day games have taken their toll with Liam Austwicke and Gavin Painter both injured in the backs and Joe Rafferty in the pack where Adam Coates is unavailable. Adam Brown was at hooker against Rovers and continues in that role this week

West: Will Hilditch, Adam Peacock, Rob Thorn, Peter Youll, Liam Checksfield, Zac Southern, Ryan Painter (captain), Andrew Rollins, Adam Brown, Ross Wood, John Bunter, Jake Linighan, Jordan Foulds, Scott Butcher, Andrew Turner.

Changes: Ben Armstrong, Carl Miller,  Craig Hadwen.
