Malton and Norton Preview

By Dave Picken - December 9 2016
Malton and Norton Preview Sam Miller and Gavin Painter return to the side which starts the second half of the season with a home game against Malton and Norton .....

Selection has been made easier for the coaches with the usual crop of absences. Aaron Myers, Alex Barker, Scott Butcher and Luke Mallinson are all unavailable  and Eldon Myers and Michael Hogan still injured - but likely to be fit  for selection for next week's tricky trip to Driffield.

It's also worth a reminder that Chris Atkins has missed virtually the whole of the season after damaging knee ligaments in the warm-up at Malton and Norton way back in September. That was after a couple of excellent performances in pre-season.

Southern, Maddison and Wood were all injured during the game, however we managed a decent 34-20 win against a home side bolstered by some lively imports.

South African full back Xavi Payi is a danger with ball in hand, and he played a major role in a second half hat trick for  Aussie winger Blake Spencer. The latter isn't in M&N's team tomorrow but there's a new Aussie on view in scrum half Luke Raduva.

We go into the game still four points clear at the top of North One East but with the pack closing in on our heels.

Alnwick and Penrith have been joined in the hunt by Pocklington and Bradford and Bingley who are the current form teams in the league - with Alnwick hosting Bradford this weekend a win against Malton could do us a power of good.

They will arrive desperate for some points after slipping into the relegation zone despite having a renowned pack and the likes of Payi in their ranks.  After winning three games in October they've only managed one victory in seven outings since  - a resounding 53-0 win over bottom club Wheatley Hills.

Good luck to the lads today with 7 not available!! Concentration for full 80 mins would be nice to see and needed. Remember opposition looked really good in phases earlier in the year. Keep it up WEST!!
