Morpeth Preview

By Dave Picken - November 18 2016
Morpeth Preview Matt Siddle makes his first league start for the visit of bogey side Morpeth. The 17 year old comes in for Ryan Painter who's away for the next couple of weeks and he'll be joined in the starting line-up by fellow "colt" Liam Checksfield who has recovered from a calf injury ...

The coaches haver never hesitated in giving youth its chance with Matty already showing what he can do in the County Cup victory over City. His pedigree thanks to grandad Arty and dad Michael is also pretty solid.

Checksfield, of course, is now pretty experienced for his tender years, and will be looking to achieve his aim of ending the season as top try scorer - a friendly rivalry with Sam Miller who has been on top form for the last couple of weels but who misses this week thanks to a back injury.

Whether he achieves his aim may be in the hands of others. The winger cum centre's progress being noted by Falcons, where he is training every Thursday, as well as being a part of the Scottish Exiles Under 18's squad.

Aaaron Myers and Joe Rafferty are also away for a couple of weeks, but fortunately John Bunter returns after missing last week's first season defeat at Alnwick. Adam Coates is also back after his sojourn to the smoke, but Michael Hogan is still struggling with a shoulder injury and misses.

Fortunately the competition for places in the pack has been one of the highglights of the season with Alex Barker  and Jay Corbett stepping up to the mark and both take their places in the starting line-up.

They'll face a Morpeth side which won both games last season - bossing the game at Mitford Road and taking their chances at Brinkburn. They only lost at Alnwick a couple of weeks ago to a late penalty and are sitting comfortably in  mid-table having won five and lost five.

Good luck to the guys for today. Will be a tough one for sure but should get the hoodoo team of our backs with a determined start and continuation for the full 80 mins.Hope the weather stays fine and any frost clears. I know we have had tough games and results could have gone our way at both Penrith and Alnwick, but just wondering if playing conditions has had any influence on our normal game?? C'mon WEST!! Best of luck to Stags also. No game for Bucks this week??
