Both the Cup and Shield competitions have been badly affected by a debate over the make-up of squads in recent seasons with Hartlepool, Seaton and BBOB all withdrawing this year.
That is a situation which must be resolved for the health of the game in the town, and to honour a proud history. The Pyman attracts bigger crowds than many league games and allows a lot of players to thoroughly enjoy a competitive end of season, as well as to enjoy the limelight.
Because of the withdrawls whoever wins tonight will face Rovers in the final - they played Horden in a double header at the weekend and won 45-0.
West Stags travel to the New Friarage tomorrow in the Pyman Cup itself.
