Winning Score We squeezed home in this nip and tuck game, holding on to our winning home run and keeping up the push for a 5th place finish.

On the other hand Beverley will see this a massive opportunity lost in their battle to avoid the drop. They created more than enough chances but some crucial dropped passes and a couple of missed kicks proved costly.

All the points came in the first half and after we soaked up some early pressure and then added two quick tries before the 20 minute mark it looked like it might be a more straightforward afternoon.

We lost Paul Moss to an early injury but after Ian Archibald had failed to reward Beverley’s early pressure with a fairly straightforward penalty goal we got the opening try through Adam Larkin. Gareth Foreman broke away from a scrum on half-way and, leaving defenders trailing behind him, timed his pass to  Larkin perfectly and the full back made no mistake, finishing in the right corner.

The lead was doubled just four minutes later. Liam Bailey made the initial break on the left and he found front-row colleague Adam Coates who in turn fed Dan Boatman and the skipper  finished off a well worked try.

Beverley’s best attacking moments came on the back of captain Junior Tupai whose powerful runs from inside centre were a frequent threat to our midfield defence and it was Tupai who had a hand in two quick tries which took his side into the lead. He created the first on 25 minutes with a terrific one handed off-load as he was tackled just short of the line and scored the second four minutes later in more straightforward fashion, throwing a dummy and going over under the posts. Archibald converted both tries to take the visitors 14-10 in-front.

As the half drew to a close we snatched the lead back with what would prove to be a game-winning try from Andy Cheslin. After a period of pressure close the line the ball was worked to the left and Cheslin made good use of an overlap to score in the corner.

After seeing five tries in the first half it seemed like there would be plenty of scoring in the second but it proved not to be the case as defences tightened up and a miss each for Archibald and Waites were the closest we came to points.

We probably had the better of the try scoring opportunities with a couple of attacks ending inches short of the line. Beverley’s best attack ended with an Edwards interception but he didn’t quite have the legs to finish off a length of the field score.

Missing out on a bonus point sees Lymm leapfrog us into 5th position but with three games to go and two of those at Brinkburn it is a still a very realistic target.

A very fair report on a closely contested match.
Thanks for the hospitality and good luck in your remaining games.

Too many mistakes by both sides but a fairly entertaining game nevertheless.
Some of our set piece work needs attention on the training field if we are to keep on progressing.
