Bucks Run the Bulls!

The Bucks travelled to Darlington to take on the host clubs 2nd Team, the Bulls. Once again cry offs meant that the Bucks and 4ths had to pool their resources as only 12 of the original Bucks selection made the meet time. So the 4th provided 3 to make up the team and 6 of their lads travelled on the bench

The Bucks started brightly but Darlington relieved the early pressure and exerted pressure themselves.

However on 10mins the Bucks caught a lineout and attempted a drive, this was repulsed but the ball was then moved wide for Full Back Martin Boatman to enter the back line and beat several defenders to go over. Fly Half Zac Southern converted(0-7).

Darlington now had plenty of possession but found themselves going backwards due to mistakes and sustained defensive pressure from the Bucks. On 16mins centre Peter Youll hacked through, No8 Nathan Myers picked up the loose ball and charged over from 25m out. Southern converted(0-14).

Once again Darlington came back on the attack but were held out for some time. Myers then won a penalty from a turnover in midfield. Scrum Half Paul Williamson took a quick tap and centre Martin Todd hit a great line in support to race over. Southern converted(0-21).

10 minutes from half-time Todd completed the scoring for the first period when a catch and drive was again repulsed. The ball was moved into the centres arms as a simple scissor, done at pace, opened a gap which wasn’t going to be refused. Southern converted(0-28).

The visitors took the opportunity to get their bench on the field. With so many changes the Bucks could have been forgiven for starting slowly but the exact opposite was the case and for the next 20mins tries came thick and fast.

First off Youll caught a wayward pass in midfield as the Bulls tried to run the kick off back at the visitors. Southern converted(0-35).

A poor Darlington clearance was ran back from within their own 22 by the Bucks. Good passing and good interplay allowed the ball to be moved to Todd who took it at pace to blitz through an unfortunate opponent in front of him to go over. Southern converted(0-42).

Some nice passing next released winger Ben Cummins, who, although tap tackled managed to offload to back row Pete Considine to score, Southern converted(0-49).

West moved the kick off receipt straight away. Myers broke in midfield and fed Southern who provided a perfect pass to Boatman to finish off. Southern converted (0-56).

Southern scored next when he looped around a midfield ruck at speed and, with the defence stretched, the 10 dummied his way over the try line. He converted his own effort(0-63).

Darlington really were shell shocked and they urged each other on and eventually got themselves a field position. They drove a lineout and as the ball came free the scrum half picked it up and darted over(5-63).

West came back and Youll chipped over the opponents back line to retrieve his own kick and feed Boatman who finished off his hat-trick. Southern converted(5-70).

Darlington repeated their initial effort as they drove a lineout for an unconverted try. (10-70).

The final score was notched by winger Cummins and Myers missed the conversion from infront(10-75).
