Southern The Stags hosted Carlisle in only their third candy league game at home this season on a bright and virtually windless day with the pitch benefiting as a result of a drop of rain overnight the scene was set for a day of running rugby.
However travel problems meant that Carlisle had to rearrange their team as two of their key players arrived just as the game started having got lost en-route. However due to the rolling subs rule they were able to enter the fray as soon as they were ready.

The Stags began the game rather mutedly and took some time to settle however a mistake by a Carlisle defender at a ruck after 3 minutes allowed Z. Southern to put the Stags into the lead (3-0) with a well taken penalty.

Four minutes later Z. Southern came into the line between the centres from full back and ran straight through the visitors defence to score and converted the try himself (10-0).

Some 10 minutes later stand off G. Robinson cut through the defence to score under the posts after a series of good forward drives converted by Z. Southern (17-0).

Virtually from the kick of the Stags backs charged back up the field with some very good interplay between the centres and flanker L. Bailey was on hand to take a pop pass to charge over the line from ten metres out converted by Z. Southern (24-0).

From the kick off the Stags ran the ball straight back and Z. Southern crossed the line for his: second try, which he converted himself to complete the scoring for the first half (36-0).

The second half began with Carlisle putting the Stags defence under pressure for the first fifteen minutes until the Stags managed to break out of defence and Z. Southern was able to cross the line wide out for his third try unconverted (41-0).

Carlisle again put the Stags under pressure and it took another breakout from defence for the Stags to be awarded a scrum 5 metreís from the Carlisle line and No 8 A. Cameron to barge over from the base of the scrum unconverted (46-0)

From the kick off the ball was moved wide and an astute kick through saw A. Larkin set free some twenty metres out to sprint over for a try unconverted (51-0).

From the kick off Carlisle again put the Stags under pressure and their persistence paid off as they managed to drive over form a ruck five metres from the Stags line for a consolation score unconverted (51-5).

The Stags then charged back up field and besieged the visitorís line that held firm until a marvellous off-load in the tackle by J. Connelly set A. Larkin free to finish off the scoring wide out unconverted (56-5)
