Official West Hartlepool RFC
Back Row York Preview
By Dave Picken - January 4 2008
Tom Dixon is unavailable for the trip down the A19 to York so Carl Miller starts in the second row with Henry Tones. There's also a change in the backs, with Neil Howe struggling with a knock, and Greg Edwards coming in after his excellent display on Boxing Day. >

Anth Carr does return in the front row after serving his suspension and takes over as skipper from Peter Hodgson who moves to inside centre to accommodate Greg.

On the wing Colin Cheslin retains his place after notching two excellent tries against Rovers.

Tim Sawyer will be looking to the side to start where they left off at Rovers where they controlled the second half and should really have scored more points.

York will provide stiff opposition on their own pitch. They're looking to move away from the relegation zone doing themselves no harm at the beginning of December beating Old Crocs at home, and then winning at Aldwinians. The wheels then promptly fell off on the Saturfday before Christmas when they nipped across to Driffield for a comprehensive 62-0 thrashing.

West: 15 Gavin Painter 14 Colin Cheslin 13 Greg Edwards 12 Peter Hodgson 11 Rob Thorn 10 Paul Moss 9 Davy Tighe 1 Anth Carr [capt] 2 Andrew Dixon 3 Carl Robinson 4 Paul Rudd 5 Carl Miller 6 Dan Boatman 7 Henry Tones 8 Jon Boatman 16 Bret Cullinane 17 Dave Garside 18 Darren Thomas

We certainly need to start where we left off last year. Thought the pack did really well again at Rovers and good to see Boatman J at Number 8 which I believe is his best position.

Bit Disappointed to see Dash taken for the 1st team seeing as the stags have a hard game against Tynedale seconds this weekend and we have every chance of beating them. Seems a shame to weaken the team, when no disrespect to york we all expect West to win.

1st team has to be our priority. I understand what you are saying but is tim and dave's responsibility to select what they believe is the best squad for each game. It is great to see all 3 teams doing so well and it would be great if all 3 could get hold of some silverware but promotion is and must be the end game!!

i agree with WPA about Boatman at 8. Cheslin has done well but hasn't really been tested in defence yet

totally agree first team HAS to come first and so on down the ranks. Roll on next season when hopefully we have 4 senior teams out every week

Nothing wrong with chesy`s tackling , he`ll do whats required of him , either going forward or defending i`m positive he`ll let no one down on that score.
