Official West Hartlepool RFC
Pontefract Preview
By Dave Picken - October 18 2007
Both West and Pontefract will have something to prove when they meet at Moor Lane. Both sides lost at home to North Two West opposition in the Cup last week as the visiting backs ran amok. >

In Ponte's case they were 31-0 down by half time and were eventually beaten 57-7 by Chester. We were doing OK until the final 20 minutes when a gross lethargy came over the side and Lymm suddenly looked like world beaters. They ran in a couple of late tries to stretch the score to 33-14

We were without a couple of regular faces last week and no doubt Pontefract were the same - although their visitors claimed to have rested no less than eight players.

A better indication of current form may be in the previous league games. Pontefract almost turned over Aspatria on their own pitch scoring five tries in the process. Most came from catch and drives with veteran Derek Eves, their player coach, getting a hat trick.

On the same afternoon our backs clicked scoring ten tries between them in the demolition of an admittedly below strength Carlisle.

The forwards had a great day providing that platform and with the return of Jon Boatman they'll be looking to produce another 80 minutes like that.

In the backs Paul Williamson returns at scrum half after being rested last week and Peterr Hodgson returns from injury in place of Rob Thorn who suffered a groin strain last week.
