Champions win at the death
By Freelancer - August 18 2008
A total of 6 points from the home match with reigning champions Middlesbrough was just sufficient to outdo bottom club Redcar by one point as they lost heavily. >

Hartlepool lost the match against Middlesbrough from the final delivery of the scheduled 50 overs.  It gifted the league leaders 3 points they didn't look like taking but had no impact on the home team as they could not gain any draw points.

Alan Tebbett was the final man to fall after batting so patiently for 98 balls to make his 30 runs.  Hartlepool had just reached 125 to gain a second batting point as they struggled against the champions bowlers.  Few partnerships were formed in the chase for 204 posted by the powerful Middlesbrough team.  Former Pool favourite Paul Johnston struck 58 against his former team  mates before falling to Callum Prosser.  This was one of 3 important wickets for Prosser which cost 88 runs from his 16 overs.  Thara Gunarathne with 3 wickets and economical spells from Kev Peek and Michael Gough.  It was Chetyn Nanda who proved the matchwinner as Hartlepool eventually succumbed to his leg spin right at the death.             Hartlepool v Middlesbrough

The seconds enjoyed a good victory away to Northallerton with wickets shared around.  peter Rghhoden with 45 was the pick of the batting as Hartlepool won by 4 wickets.  Northallerton 2nds v Hartlepool 2nds
