Close shave in the rain after Gough century
By Freelancer - July 20 2008
Hartlepool ended an eventful week of action with a 12 point draw away to Richmondshire. Highlights for Hartlepool were centuries for Michael Gough and an unbeaten half century from Thara Gunarathne. Shani Dissenayeke scored his own whirlwind century as he took his team close in the rain >

Michael Gough and Thara Gunarathne enjoyed a large partnership away at Richmond to take Hartlepool past 200 for the first time this season.  A magnificent century from Gough provided the base and he was out off the last ball of the innings with Gunarathne unbeaten.  The match was interrupted a couple of times and Richmondshire knew that they would have only 24 overs available and a no result draw was likely.

Perhaps Hartlepool entered the 2nd innings with some complacency believing that Richmond had no chance in the time available.  Dissenayeke soon set about the bowling and took his team to the brink of victory as Hartlepool's bowling and fielding fell below standard.  In the end 12 points for each side resulted but Hartlepool were given a fright.  With most other matches washed out 12 points were sufficient to take Hartlepool 1 place up the league. Both matches involving 2nds and 3rds fell foul of the weather with very little play possible.
