Blackhall take honours from drab draw
By Freelancer - May 4 2008
Blackhall took every opportunity to punish a Hartlepool attack minus Ian Palmer and Ian Jackson as Warren Swan scored a century on his home debut. Half-centuries for Mike Gough and Jack Wilkinson followed as Hartlepool put safety first ahead of any attempt at victory. >

Blackhall are obviously delighted with the start made by Warren Swan, a late replacement as professional due to IPL commitments of the original choice. He batted flawlessly against the weakened Hartlepool attack to set the tone for a very one-sided local derby. He was aided by contributions from Darby, Mirza and Hickey as Blackhall totalled 238 for 3 from 50 overs.

However Blackhall bowlers also found wickets hard to come by as Mike Gough and Jack Wilkinson shared a large opening stand. Sadly the scoring was much too slow and only 7 boundaries were hit in the second innings as Hartlepool failed to reach even the 75% threshold to qualify for any draw points. They eventually finished on 160 for 3 and collected only 4 points to Blackhall's 14. One Blackhall supporter described it as unfathomable that we fail to achieve the 75% target yet our overseas pro didn't even get to face a ball. Overly cautious and not entertaining.

Blackhall v Hartlepool Scorecard

Blackhall View of the Match

The 2nd team were at home to Saltburn in the latest round-robin match of the Readman Cup. a second victory was gained as Saltburn failed to master the offspin of Shiraz Kasi and were dismissed for 120. Kasi finished with 6 for 38 from 15 overs. Early wickets fell in reply before Andy Barnard (50) and Shiraz Kasi 25 not out saw Hartlepool home. Victory in the final Group Match should ensure Hartlepool qualify for the knock-out stages.

Who is this spinner in the 2's?

Is it the chap who came to the indoor nets - a friend of Hashim's?

The spinner in the second team is Sheraz Kasi. Yes it is Hashim's friend who came to the nets.
Nice chap actually, and seems to know what he is doing with the ball. Think he has played a good standard at some poinbt too

yes he seemed to be more than useful in the indoor nets - nice flight and good control with lots of turn for that surface.

nice to see the club getting some quality players in.
