The beast that is Twenty20 cricket makes its long awaited debut at Clowne Town Cricket Club on Wednesday 15th July from 6pm. The format of the game that has revolutionised cricket, making it more accessable and exctiting to the masses, will be on show in all its glory at the High Leys Road Ground in a game played out between a Clowne Town XI(or 15) and a team made up of DAS employees, two of which are our very own 1st XI skipper, and massive traitor, Adam 'Chalkie' White and former(??) Sunday 1stXI Captain Terry 'Tinker' Bell. DAS are a Mansfield based company specialising in the supply of satalite TV's and set top boxes, amongst other things, and we would like to wish them a warm welcome on Wednesday night.
If anyone thinks this could be a mis-match, think again. Tinker has been putting his troops through a vigorous 4 week training programme in the companies warehouse which involved many games using rolls of duck tape in the shape of a ball and parts of pallets used as bats. And, as this format of the game suits Chalkies "bowl fast and slog hard" style of cricket, there could be quite a game in prospect.
There will be a full blown managers bench or "dug out" for the players to relax in whilst they are waiting to bat and where the coaches can discuss tactics with their charges. We tried to get a quote from the DAS skipper, exclusively for the official Clowne Town CC site, however Terry was unavailable to comment as the Warehouse gates were locked. Only a few shouts of "Come on lads, come on" could be heard.
There will be a BBQ, pie and peas and hopefully curry available on the evening as well as a live singer, so with the weather looking OK and the bar stocked full it promises to be a fun evening full of laughs and hopefully a bit of good cricket too. So get yourselves here anytime after 5.30 and start to soak up the atmosphere
