It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the death of long term West supporter Verna Watson who became ill shortly before Christmas.
Verna and husband Derek were involved at Brierton Lane for many years- helping the likes of Kevin Young coach some lads who became highly successful rugby players.
In more recent times they supported big Anth Williams, a family friend from Billingham, wherever he played.
Derek and Verna were originally from Horden and it is likely the funeral will be there. We will announce details when we have them.
In the meantime all our thoughts are with Derek and family and friends.

So sorry to hear the sad news. Verna was a lovely lady who loved West. She was a great supporter of the Club shop and had 1 of everything, Ann got her a shopping trolley put outside the shop. She thought that was hilarious.

Our sympathy and thoughts are with Derek and Tony anf the rest of the family at this sad time.

We are so sorry for the loss of our dear friend Verna Watson. A true lady who will be sadly missed by Dave, Judith, Greg and Chris Edwards and all the young west players she supported over the years in all weathers. Our thoughts are with Derek, Anthony and family at this sad time.

Thanks for all your kind messages and thoughts. I can confirm the arrangements in HRBH's post above. Verna was a dedicated flower arranger and always hated what she regarded as the waste of flowers at Crematoriums. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to either Marie Curie Nurses or the Butterwick Hospice both of which were causes close to Verna’s heart.
Thanks from the family

Anthony Watson
