We’ve received this sad news from John Denham the County secretary

It is with great regret that I have to inform you of the death of Brian Watt.
He passed away last night in hospital.
All our thoughts are with Jennifer and her family.

Brian was a member of Hartlepool Rovers FC.

He was in his 41st year as a member of the society, having joined in season 1977-78.

He was appointed as the Schools' Union Representative to the DCRFU General Committee for 16 seasons -1989-90 to 2004-05 and
was installed as the President of the Durham County RFU for season 2002-03.

This season was his 25th season as a DCRFU Representative to the Referees' Society Committee.

Since Season 2006-07 he has been the RS Advisers' Secretary.

For his many years of outstanding service to the Society, he was awarded Honorary Membership in season 2003-04 and Life Membership in season 2011-12.

Details of his funeral will be forwarded when known.

Saddened to hear of Brian's passing. He was a lovely bloke. My dealings with him at junior rugby level always found him to be firm but fair. My condolences to his family

Sad news about Brian. A real gentleman and true rugby man through and through.
He was my first assessor when I started referring and he always left you with a positive comment.

Brian's funeral will be on Friday 10th November 2.00 pm at All Saints Church in Hutton Rudby.
